KNYSNA HOCKEY NEWS - Old Oaks Knysna Hockey Club is refusing to let summer go, as they are gearing up to host their annual Old Oaks Summer League which is set to begin in two weeks.
The Old Oaks Summer League was first held in 2012, and this year sees the 9th edition of the annual competition.
The competition acts as a fun, friendly way for the public to get active and have a bit of fun on the hockey field, but most importantly for those who are a little more serious about their hockey, it acts as the perfect warm-up to shake off the guaranteed rustiness that comes with an extended off-season period.
The league will be played over the course of six weeks between 11 February and 18 March, and matches will be scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Typically the first games start at 17:30 and the second games at 18:20.
It is open to all hockey players of every skill level from the U14 age group and upward. According to Old Oaks Knysna Hockey club coach Nigel Leverton, it doubles as a way for people to get involved with the club too.
"We're always looking for more people to come out and play hockey, and for us there's no better way to introduce them to the great setup we have here at Old Oaks," Leverton said.

Matches will be played at the Oakhill Sports Campus hockey astroturf, and only the final day of matches will be played on a Wednesday. The teams will be mixed teams of boys and girls and games will be played on half a field with 20 minute halves.
Team captains will be in touch once teams have been finalised and all relevant information will then be relayed to the players.
There is a fee per player to enter into the league, and Leverton extended a hearty invitation to all who are interested to contact him either on 083 440 0086 or nigel@thetoyfactory.co.za.
