PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay sports enthusiasts will have the opportunity to show off their skills in various disciplines when the popular Sixes Festival comes to the coastal holiday town next month, as part of the event's countrywide "road trip".
Last year the Garden Route Sixes Festival was held in Knysna, but this year it's Plett's turn to play host, and organisers promise a "bigger and better" event than ever before.
Cricket, golf and padel
All done along a "6s format", participants and spectators can look forward to cricket, golf and padel.
This year the cricket will be hosted by Plettenberg Bay Primary School, while the golf will take place at the Goose Valley Golf Club, and the padel at Africa Padel Plett.
"We feel we have found the perfect homes for the Garden Route Sixes Festival, and can now grow the event to its full potential, where everyone can enjoy the event closer to their homes or accommodation in the heart of Plett," the organisers said.
The reason they decided to move the Garden Route edition to these venues was to ensure that the festival was more accessible to players and spectators.
Netball tournament
Organisers explained they would once again have two cricket leagues - the VIP League for those who feel they can take on some of the country's best, and the Castle League for more social players taking part for the experience.
New on this year's programme is a 6s format padel tournament at Africa Padel Plett. Teachers at Plett Primary also agreed to host a social netball tournament.
"With all the excitement we have decided to add a Saturday night music event at the school for all to attend, with a surprise headliner which we will announce soon."
Children supervised
Over and above the sporting action, the festival will also offer a Castle Lager beer garden throughout the weekend.
Plett Primary staff have also agreed to open the Little Eden playground to children between the ages of four and seven, where they will be supervised while their parents enjoy the action.
To enter a cricket, golf or padel team, interested parties can go to the festival website, www.sixesfestival.com

The festival is set to take place between 25 and 27 October.
A portion of team sales and sponsorship funding will be funnelled to the festival's Hit Poverty For a Six initiative, which facilitates the participation of local development teams, as well as development clinics.
