KNYSNA NEWS AND VIDEO - The Knysna Oyster Netball Tournament held from 4 to 6 July brought together nearly 400 players across five categories and 10 towns.
Hosted at the Hornlee sports ground, the tournament included the little mini juniors (ages 7–9), mini juniors (ages 10–13), juniors (ages 14–17) and senior ladies (ages 18+) categories.
Overall, 394 participants from Hornlee, White Location, Oupad, Concordia, Sedgefield, Karatara, Rheenendal, Mossel Bay, Plettenberg Bay and George took part.
Despite forecasts of heavy rain, the tournament was spared severe weather, allowing all matches to proceed with minimal interruption.
Titans Netball Academy (senior ladies) dominated their category throughout, emerging as the only undefeated team.
Knysies (Knysna Primary School) bravely competed in the junior category (ages 14–17), with the eldest player being just 13 and the youngest only 11.
Western Cape Minister of Sport Ricardo Mackenzie was also in attendance as well as Dr Lyndon Bouah, Desmond Speelman and Jean Neething of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), which sponsored the event.
One of the organisers, Lynn Kayser, expressed her gratitude to Knysna Deputy Mayor Morton Gericke and Councillor Susan Campbell for helping overcome key challenges.
Kayser also thanked the Hornlee community for donating 117 food packs and Chantell Kovacs for her generous donation of cupcakes.
