KNYSNA NEWS - The soccer team of Concordia High School defeated Knysna High 1-0 in the Eden Region interschools competition on Saturday morning, 3 April, at Hornlee Stadium.
Aqhama Mdatyulwa netted the only goal of the game, sending his side to the next round of the tournament.
Concordia High's centre back, Lihlonele Mabhadi, gave an exceptional performance, marshalling his team from the back line.
Looking smart
The derby game started at fast pace with both schools grinding for their first goal.
The Concordia boys were looking very smart on the ball employing the pace of Aslin Kritzinger on attack.
Concordia's Aqhama Mdatyulwa opened the score, making it 1-0 to put his side in the lead.
The Knysna High soccer team players were hunting for their first goal to level the score in the first half. Concordia were awarded a set piece outside the box, but the Knysna High goalkeeper made a brilliant save, denying Concordia their coveted second goal.
When the whistle blew for the first half, Concordia was leading 1-0.
Balanced second half
The teams played a fast but balanced second half, with Concordia pressing for more goals.
The Concordia boys were dangerous on the ball, forcing Knysna High's defenders to panic, but Knysna managed to take control of the game toward the end of the second half.
However, it was too late for them to register a goal and the game ended 1-0, Concordia going straight to the next round.
