PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Oriented Birds sank Barcelona 4-0 in a thrilling Western Cape ABC Motsepe Provincial League fixture on Saturday 30 November at Kwanokuthula Stadium.
Ikho Ntsuntsu, Siyanda Madlala, Menzi Gwala and Lakhiwe Menze scored for the "Yellow Marines".
With 14 points, the Birds are fighting for the top position on the Western Cape ABC Motsepe log table.
They have played eight fixtures, and have registered four victories, two draws and two losses, while Barcelona (Beaufort West) are near the bottom of the log, with four points from five games.
Solid defence
The game got off to a good start with the home team looking very sharp on the ball and creating opportunities.
Ntsuntsu netted the first goal, and Barcelona tried to come back into the game but it was not easy for them to break through Oriented Birds' solid defence.
The second half saw the Birds displaying more excellent touches on the ball as they went forward into the box - and just after set play Madlala scored their second goal.
Central Karoo Region team Barcelona were battling to defend against the offensive play by the Birds' wingers.
Caused panic
The Birds kept on grinding away in search of more goal opportunities and Gwala extended their lead after good work from the centre of the field.
Sensational attacker Menze caused panic among Barcelona's defenders with his threatening moves, and netted the Birds' final goal.
Oriented Birds captain Khanyisani Radebe said he was pleased his side collected maximum points from the home game, and added it "feels good to see the young players taking the game very seriously - and they performed so well".
