GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A former vice-president of the SWD Cricket Board, André Visser, was honoured with a Legends Award by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, at a gala breakfast hosted at Kronenburg Wine Estate near Paarl on Thursday 13 March.
He served on the executive committee of Mossel Bay Cricket Club during the unification of sporting bodies - including cricket - in 1991. In July 1995 he was elected as a member of the SWD Cricket Board, as treasurer.
He served as a member of the SWDC executive committee until July 2011 - for 16 consecutive years. Visser was elected as the vice-president of the SWDCB in July 2005 and held the position for six years.
"André's involvement in SWD Cricket was as a true volunteer and he served governance structures with diligence and commitment," commented the president of SWD Cricket, Micheal Eksteen. "We are grateful that he was honoured for his devoted service to cricket."
