KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Cavaliers claimed the Women's Division 2 T20 title on Sunday 16 February, with an impressive 91-run victory over Plett Pioneers, continuing their dominance in local cricket.
The final was played in Oudtshoorn at the Recreational Ground.
Opting to bat first, the Cavaliers posted a competitive total of 124 runs, all out, in 24.3 overs.
Superb knock
Leading the charge with the bat was Kemrodiene Swartz, who played a superb knock of 57 not out, anchoring the innings with steady composure.
However, it was the Cavaliers' bowlers who really stole the show.
With the ball, Swartz was equally outstanding, taking 3 wickets for just 9 runs. She was well supported by Brenda-Leigh Fredericks (2/4) and Kim Malgas (2/10), who helped reduce the Pioneers to a meagre total.
Bowlers fired up
Plett Pioneers, chasing down 125 for victory, struggled against a fired-up Cavaliers bowling attack.
They were bowled out for a paltry 33 runs in just 15.1 overs. The Cavaliers' dominant performance ensured a commanding 91-run victory.
In the aftermath of this thrilling victory, coach Byron Jantjies expressed his pride in the side.
The victorious Cavaliers team
'Extra mile'
"We were always willing to go the extra mile, and that mindset has paid huge dividends," he said.
"I couldn't be prouder of the way the team have carried themselves.
Division 1
"Next year, we'll be stepping up to Division 1, where the competition will be even tougher, but we are looking forward to the challenge."
This defeat marks the third consecutive season that Plett Pioneers have fallen short in the final, while the Cavaliers celebrate their well-deserved triumph.
