KNYSNA NEWS - A group of Grade Seven school leaders from Knysna Primary School recently spent a memorable morning at Sabrina's Farm, where they took part in an Inclusion and Disability Awareness Day hosted by the Sabrina Love Foundation.
The visit gave learners an opportunity to learn more about the work of Sabrina's Centre for Children with Disabilities, which provides specialised education, therapy and support services to 64 children with moderate to severe disabilities.
During an interactive information session, the learners gained insight into different disabilities, the challenges many children face in accessing education and community life, and the importance of creating inclusive environments.
A key message throughout the day was that every child belongs.
The learners learn about sustainability in Sabrina Love Foundation’s vegetable gardens..
One of the highlights was joining the centre's Morning Ring, where children and staff come together through music, movement and song.
The learners danced, sang and interacted with the children, discovering that friendship and connection transcend differences.
The group also took part in a range of hands-on activities, including spending time in classrooms, learning about adaptive education programmes, exploring equine-assisted therapy, learning South African Sign Language while baking bread, and visiting the foundation's vegetable gardens and sustainability projects.
For many learners, it was their first opportunity to spend meaningful time with children with disabilities and to experience inclusion in action.
The Sabrina Love Foundation believes that building an inclusive society starts with education and exposure, and that young people have an important role to play in shaping communities where everyone feels valued and accepted.
The learners returned to school with a deeper understanding of empathy, acceptance and human connection, equipped to share those lessons with their peers and help promote inclusion in their communities.
