KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality has announced its new executive mayor as councillor Ricky van Aswegen after he was selected at a special council meeting today.
Having previously served as a teacher in Knysna, van Aswegen has been involved in Knysna politics for 27 years, and had previously served as deputy mayor of Knysna Municipality until he was removed through a motion of no confidence in June last year.
Van Aswegen, affiliated to the COPE party, has been serving as councillor for Ward 6 and takes over a vacant executive mayoral seat which has been left cold since the official removal of Mark Willemse as mayor in March this year.
Van Aswegen will be announcing his mayoral committee in due course, and Deputy Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa and speaker Mertle Gombo will remain in their respective positions according to Knysna Municipality.
