The department announced that over 15,000 pupils from the Vhembe school district in Limpopo will have to rewrite both Life Sciences papers.
The decision was taken after copies of the exams were leaked on social media and WhatsApp.
Five pupils from Gauteng and two from Mpumalanga have also been implicated.
Department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says, “A criminal investigation is underway and the Hawks are working with us. They’ve done some great work so far. We really want to get to the bottom of this. We believe a criminal offence has been committed here.”
