According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, a large group of protestors are burning tyres and other objects as well as throwing stones at cars.
The N2 was closed just outside Knysna at the Uniondale turn-off earlier today, but according to Spies, two lanes going either way are now open under the watchful eyes of law enforcement.
This is to alleviate a very long traffic backlog which started just after midday.
The Public Order Policing (PoP) are at the scene and law enforcement from Knysna.
Spies could not say for how long the road will still be affected.
As the situation develops the Knysna-Plett Herald will update the news.
