KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Municipality said this morning, Monday 29 October, that residents of Knysna can expect the air to be filled with smoke from the Karatara fire, but that the fire is currently contained.
Currently, the municipality said, fire is actively burning high up in the mountain area. "Emergency teams are monitoring and the fire is currently contained," said the municipal statement.
The municipal statement added that, due to the heavy smoke, helicopters are not able to fly and no water bombing can be done at this stage.
"Backburns and fire breaks will be done during the course of the day. Residents will experience heavy smoke and ashes but there is no immediate danger at this stage," the statement read.
