KNYSNA NEWS - Residents are being urged to make use of a temporary designated garden refuse dumping site following an increase in illegal dumping incidents across the area.
The temporary site has been established on municipal open land at the corner of George Rex Drive and Vigilance Drive, near the traffic lights, in response to growing complaints from the public regarding the unlawful disposal of garden waste.
Municipal officials said the measure aims to provide residents with a controlled area where they can safely dispose of garden refuse while helping to reduce illegal dumping in residential areas and open spaces.
Only tree branches, leaves, grass cuttings, and other garden refuse may be disposed of at the site. Residents have been warned that household waste, solid refuse, building rubble, and any other materials are strictly prohibited.
Authorities also cautioned that dumping outside the designated area remains illegal and could result in further action being taken against offenders.
The municipality appealed to the public to co-operate by using the temporary facility responsibly and ensuring that the area remains clean, safe and orderly for all residents.
The temporary arrangement will remain in place while efforts continue to address illegal dumping and maintain environmental standards within the community.
