KNYSNA NEWS - Following the tragic loss of two members of the Superspar and East End Kwikspar staff, rumours began circulating that their deaths were Covid-19 related.
However, Superspar general manager, Leon Terblanche, dismissed these rumours as untrue.
He said Bertie Dewberry passed away in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday 17 November, and Piet van Eden, known to everyone as “Oom Piet”, passed away at about 19:00 on Saturday 21 November.
Terblanche said Dewberry died of natural causes, while Van Eden’s death certificate has not yet been released.
"It was a big shock to us, I am still struggling to comprehend it," said Terblanche. "Bertie and I have worked together for so many years, and Oom Piet was practically the mascot of Kwikspar, so their losses are seriously felt within our circles."
