KNYSNA NEWS - After more than 25 years at the helm, long-time principal of Sunridge Primary School, Leon Solomons, bade farewell to his beloved school last Tuesday, 30 November.
Solomons took over the mantle of principal at Sunridge in 1995, three years after he joined the school.
He has remained the man in charge for nearly 26 years, until his retirement last week.
Educators and public servants in South Africa are required by law to retire at the age of 65, so when Solomons celebrated his 65th rotation around the sun on 1 August, it also meant the end of an era for him.
A special event was held at the school on 30 November, attended by the entire school as well as various dignitaries, including principals from other local schools.
Leon Solomons bids farewell to his learners and staff.
The ceremony ended with a fitting guard of honour for Solomons, with all the learners lining the pathway out the school's gates as both parents and children bade farewell to their principal.
Deputy principal Salvin Hannie will take over as acting principal until a new principal is appointed.
