SEDGEFIELD NEWS - On Tuesday 4 June, The Living Cornerstone care centre in ward 2, Sedgefield, was blessed with a visit by Knysna Primary school.
The leaders of the school, pupils Dewald van der Westhuizen and Elisa Greef, accompanied by teachers Evelyn White and Juandre Digue, visited us as part of their community outreach programme.
On arrival, the pupils joined the residents for tea and juice. They then took part in the residents' activities of colouring in items and scrapbooking.
After the activities, the pupils sang a couple of songs, and some of the residents joined in.
A happy atmosphere was tangible in the house.
The pupils then served the residents with lunch. The 12 residents at the centre, for people diagnosed with dementia, received gift packs from the pupils, which included hygiene products and socks, and some amazing letters which they wrote to our residents.
We were able to give the school a number of pairs of school shoes, and a mascot named Frikkie to the school leaders.
One of our residents thanked them for being there, and this day was one of those highlights which will be treasured in our hearts for a long time!
The school and its personnel can be proud of the way these pupils approached the outreach - the utmost respect and discipline were the order of the day.
Marietjie Digue, the facility manager at the centre, would like to thank the school for making The Living Cornerstone part of their community outreach programme.
