PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - This year, as we celebrate nurses during the month of May – with International Nurses’ Day being on 12 May – we take the time out to recognise each nurse who has chosen a career of caring.
At Mediclinic Plettenberg Bay we honour Priscilla Bock as the annual Nursing Excellence Award recipient in recognition of the dedication she invests into caring for her patients and supporting her colleagues. The award is most significant because nominations are made by nursing peers who work tirelessly alongside each other ensuring the best possible patient outcomes.
Our nurses make it their life’s mission to help others recover and maintain healthy lives, or to support them and their families where recovery is not possible. The specific date is chosen as an international tribute to the profession, to coincide with Florence Nightingale’s birthday, and it allows us to celebrate the valuable work our nurses are doing.
Vital component in community
Mediclinic believes that nurses are a vital component of a healthy community. Nurses are born to care and we believe in training and nurturing them to fulfil this role.
“Mediclinic’s Nursing Excellence Award is an opportunity to recognise those nurses who give of themselves daily in caring for others; nurses who believe that delivering on patients’ expectations is an essential part of who they are,” says Mediclinic Southern Africa nursing executive Estelle Coustas.
“We are constantly investigating how we can better meet our patients’ expectations, and this year we have identified the opportunity of strengthening communication between our staff in the nursing units and our patients, allowing us to better serve our community.”
In May we encourage each patient, family member or friend to take the opportunity to recognise those around you who are giving unselfishly to heal and care for others.
