KNYSNA NEWS - Seventeen-year-old Plettenberg Bay amateur golfer Jonathan Ackerman achieved a major milestone when he won the Blue Label Bushveld Tour professional tournament last week.
He registered scores of 70, 68, 70 to finish eight under par in the contest, held at the Kyalami Country Club, Midrand, Gauteng.
"It's the first pro tour I've won as an amateur - I made my debut on the pro tour, and then I won it," Jonathan, still in Gauteng, said. The victory was "my biggest achievement so far".
Winning the Bushveld Tour event, held from 18 to 20 June, earned Jonathan an invitation to play on the Big Easy Tour - named for Ernie Els - in a tournament held from 25 to 27 June at the Benoni Country Club, Gauteng.
"I'm even more excited to play in the Big Easy, because it's an even bigger step than the Bushveld Tour - there are only eight amateurs playing on the Big Easy Tour," the teen said.
