NATIONAL NEWS - The following notice regarding misleading information was issued by Eskom:
Notice to correct fictitious and misleading information Eskom is aware of several messages being circulated via social and digital media indicating that there won’t be electricity in South Africa for extended periods of time.
These are false and misleading. Loadshedding is a controlled and responsible act implemented to prevent a national blackout – it reduces demand in a scheduled and controlled manner.
It is managed on a rotational basis for a period of between 2 - 4 hours at a time, depending on which schedule the customer is on, on a particular day.
Loadshedding is undertaken by Eskom and municipal electricity authorities in terms of the regulatory code NRS048-9, approved by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA).
Customers are advised to keep checking their loadshedding schedules on the Eskom website (http://loadshedding.eskom.co.za) or their local municipal websites.
Eskom customers can also contact our customer contact centre at 0860 037 566. Eskom is also aware of Eskom parody accounts being used to spread fake news.
