KNYSNA NEWS - One of the main attractions at SANParks’ headquarters on Thesen Island during this year’s Knysna Oyster Festival will be the breeding tank of the endangered Knysna seahorse.
Field Ranger Chrystahl Mortlock, based at the Thesen Island centre, is responsible for the care of these delicate marine creatures.
Her daily tasks include feeding them a diet of brown shrimp to help ensure their survival.
Currently, the breeding tank houses 15 adult Knysna seahorses, while three juveniles are kept separately in the centre’s scientific storage facility for closer monitoring.
