PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Ayabonga Mkontwana (16) from Plettenberg Bay was one of the standout players at the recent U19 High School Soccer Festival held at Imizamo Yethu High in George.
The talented centre back played a crucial role in helping his team, Murray High School, lift the Schools Cup.
Originally from Kwanokuthula in Plett, Ayabonga currently plays for the Kabo Yellow Football Club Development Team under the Plettenberg Bay Local Football Association.
Despite his young age, he has already begun making a name for himself in the local football scene.
Passionate about the game
When asked how he felt after the big win for his school's team, he said that he is very proud to be a member of the victorious team. "Our goal is to one day become champions of the Kay Motsepe Foundation, and to help develop more young stars in the process," he said.
He dreams of one day playing professional football for one of South Africa's most iconic clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
To young, aspiring footballers, Ayabonga offered this advice: "Never give up; you never know who's watching you from the sidelines." He emphasised the importance of discipline and hard work, underlining that these values are the key to success both on and off the field.
