KNYSNA NEWS - SANParks and the Honorary Rangers in the Knysna region handed over fishing equipment to 51 local anglers at the Hornlee Community Hall last week.
The beneficiaries, all aged 45 and older, rely on fishing as a vital source of food and as part of longstanding cultural traditions.
The donation formed part of an initiative aimed at supporting sustainable livelihoods while promoting responsible fishing practices.
Each angler received a fishing rod with reel, a tackle box stocked with hooks and sinkers, a fish descaler and a prawn pump. The equipment ensures that recipients are properly equipped to practise safe, ethical and compliant angling.
In addition, SANParks facilitated the issuing of fishing permits through the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment. Beneficiaries also received sunhats and branded T-shirts.
