KNYSNA NEWS - The big derby match between Knysna United Rugby Club and Sedgefield Eagle Stars played at Knysna's Loerie Park Sportsfield this past weekend, ended in an epic 30-30 draw.
It was a pretty even match-up right from the get-go. In the scrums, things were fairly even, but at the lineouts Eagle Stars had the upper hand and regularly stole balls from Knysna United.
Eagle Stars scored first and were 10-0 up in the blink of an eye from a converted try and a penalty. United gradually began to find their feet in the game, but still trailed 18-15 at half-time.
In the second half, United were more consistent at the breakdowns, creating momentum for their forwards to cross the advantage line.
After a flurry of five-pointers from both sides, it appeared as if United would clinch the game, but Eagle Stars showed their mettle and levelled the scores in the last minute.
Supporters of both clubs will acknowledge that the end-result of this game was a fair reflection of how the game went, hence they were treated to top running rugby.
For Eagle Stars, Luigi Coetzee and Averon Jafta scored one try each. Jeromique Grootboom was successful with one goal kick and six penalty kicks.
Eagle Stars' last league game takes place this coming weekend, against Silver Stars RVK in George.
