KNYSNA | PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Knysna's total number of Covid-19 cases has increased by more than 130 since the weekend, coupled with an increase of 29 cases in Bitou.
Covid-19 related deaths have risen by four and one in the towns respectively.
The sharp increase in accumulative Covid-19 cases in Knysna has been a problem that the area has had to deal with for the last month, with the accumulative standing at 119 on 21 June.
It has, however, multiplied more than five-fold in the month since.
As of 20 July, there are a total of 643 Covid-19 cases in the Knysna subdistrict, an increase of 524 from the numbers a month prior. Of these 643 cases, Knysna sadly has recorded 13 deaths, with 307 recoveries thus far.
This means that Knysna currently has 323 active cases of Covid-19. The age demographic with the highest number of Covid-19 cases in Knysna is 31-40, with a total of 174 cases.
Bitou has also seen a sharp rise in numbers. On 22 June, Bitou's total cases stood at 42, less than a sixth of where the figure stands at now. As of 20 July, Bitou's accumulative Covid-19 cases stand at 258, with a total of 130 recoveries and nine deaths.
Bitou now has 119 active cases of Covid-19, with the 31-40 being the most-affected age group (the same as Knysna) with 69 cases.
