KNYSNA NEWS - Although Concordia High School's matric pass rate of 69.6% is down from last year's 76.4%, school principal Zamubuntu Blaai said the school boasts a 100% pass rate in Afrikaans and IsiXhosa as well as a 100% in consumer sciences and life orientation.
"Every high school is always aiming for 100% and we are no different. I would say we lost focus in the second term after the shooting of the late Victor Molosi. If you remember, he was coming from an SGB meeting at the school and I took him home and later drove him to the hospital after the shooting, so I'd say that was traumatic not only for me but the learners at the school who were in the same class as his son.
By the time they tried to get back on track, he said, they might have been too late. He added, "We're not giving up because of the drop but staying strong as a school. What is encouraging is how positive the teachers are."
Top achiever Khanyisa Nogabe, who scooped two distinctions – in tourism (88%) and in life orientation (82%) – said he is pleased with his results even though he expected to do better.
On what happens next for him he said, “That is a daunting choice as I have been accepted at different universities for different courses – except for the University of the Western Cape, where I want to go study a bachelor of commerce with all my heart. If they don’t take me then I’ll explore my other options.”
Nogabe said what prepared him and helped him pass is going into Grade 12 with the right mentality, but he added, “Though it has to be coupled with a support system which I got from my teachers and I drew strength from my mother.”
The school has 24 distinctions all together, which include the following:
- Vuyani Ndlovu,
- Amanda Phantsi,
- Bongisa Maqhula,
- Dumisani Molosi,
- Silindokuhle Nkontso,
- Sinoxolo Sojada,

- Asive Mvumvu,

- Sikelelwa Nqonqoza,
