KNYSNA NEWS - An artist from Knysna, Tersia Cooper, has once again proven that creativity and compassion can go hand in hand. Cooper painted a large canvas of a cat specifically to raise funds for the Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS).
The artwork was sold, and the full proceeds - R6 000 - have been donated to KAWS to help keep animals warm this winter.
"This cause is close to my heart because I love animals," said an elated Cooper. "I hope this inspires other artists to use their talent to make a difference."
Her generous act not only supports the welfare of animals in the com-munity but also highlights the power of art in driving positive change.
The artwork was purchased by Sanet Koster, who has since renamed the cat in the painting "Gandalf," after the iconic wizard from The Lord of the Rings. Koster said that the painting will be shown at her cat sanctuary in Wittedrift, Plettenberg Bay.
KAWS expressed heartfelt thanks for the contribution."This is such an unusual way of getting a donation, a practical but unusual way where everyone is benefitting greatly," said Belinda Speed, KAWS kennel manager.
Cooper challenges more local artists to follow her lead and create pieces that benefit charitable causes like KAWS.
