KNYSNA NEWS - In their debut appearance at the prestigious Woza Woza Tournament, newly formed Abahlobo FC from Knysna delivered an inspiring performance, despite a 3-0 loss to Wits FC of Jeffrey's Bay in the third-place play-off held last weekend at Kwanokuthula Stadium.
The match saw Wits striker Mvuyiseleli Myana score a superb hat-trick, securing the bronze medal and third-place cash prize for his side.
Myana's clinical finishing proved to be the difference in a game filled with high energy and attacking intent.
Standout effort in semis
Both teams had reached the semi-finals of Woza Woza Tournament Season 4, with Potso Stars (Hankey) beating Wits FC 2-0, while hosts Oriented Birds edged past Abahlobo FC 2-1.
Despite the loss, Khanyiso Fatyela stood out for Abahlobo with an exceptional performance in midfield.
Missed opportunities
The third-place match kicked off with both teams creating early chances. Myana opened the scoring for Wits FC in the first half, slotting past goalkeeper Wongalethu Siziba, giving Wits a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Abahlobo came out strong in the second half, with Sinovuyo Thanga denied twice by the woodwork in a frustrating spell for the Knysna side.
Myana added a second goal on the break and later converted a penalty after a defensive error to complete his hat-trick.
Despite their best efforts, Abahlobo FC could not breach Wits' solid defence.
