KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality has officially welcomed Richard Kakora as the new Patriotic Alliance (PA) proportional representation (PR) councillor, following his appointment to serve the local community.
The swearing-in ceremony took place in the Knysna municipal council chambers on Friday 28 November.
Born in Port Elizabeth and a permanent resident of Knysna since 2011, Kakora brings extensive community experience and a strong commitment to public service. He was instrumental in establishing the town's first black business forum, aimed at addressing the challenges faced by small contractors.
In addition, he has served on the governing body of Sunridge Primary School and holds a diploma in contract management, alongside certification as an asbestos contractor.
As a PR councillor, Kakora has pledged to be highly visible in the community, conducting regular ward walkabouts and engaging directly with residents.
"Ons baiza nie," he said, referencing the PA's slogan, and assured the people of Knysna that when it comes to service delivery and being a voice in Council, "Ek baiza nie".
"My focus as councillor will be to actively participate in the community and ensure that the concerns of our people are heard," Kakora said.
"I am aware of the challenges our town faces, and I am determined to tackle them head-on. Councillors and the administration alike must remain accountable to the people they serve."
Kakora fills the vacancy left by former councillor Waleed Grootboom. His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the PA to strengthen its presence in Knysna and prepare for the next local elections.
Knysna Municipality expressed confidence that Kakora will bring "heart, integrity, and a genuine commitment to service, making a positive impact on the lives of residents across the town".
