KNYSNA NEWS - As festive cheer begins to fill the air and the lights along Knysna's main road shine brightly, signalling the arrival of the Christmas season, Mayor Thando Matika has conveyed festive greetings to the greater Knysna community.
Matika described 2025 as a period marked by perseverance, progress and strong partnerships.
Having taken office at the end of February, the mayor expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of greater Knysna for the warm welcome and continued support he received throughout the year.
"Since my election, we have seen a renewed focus on improving service delivery and investing in initiatives that foster inclusion, opportunity and growth," Matika said.
Appreciation was also extended to external stakeholders whose collaboration has reinforced the understanding that Knysna's strength lies not in the absence of challenges, but in the shared determination to overcome them together.
With the festive season under way, Matika once again welcomed the many visitors who continue to choose greater Knysna as their holiday destination.
Highlighting the town's natural beauty - from its tranquil forests and shimmering lagoons to its golden beaches - the mayor praised local businesses, the hospitality sector and municipal teams for their ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
Visitors were encouraged to enjoy all that Knysna has to offer, while being mindful of the environment and leaving only footprints behind.
The mayor also reminded both residents and visitors that, while Knysna is open for business, responsible water usage remains essential, as every drop counts.
As the season of celebration unfolds, he called on the community to act with mindfulness and gratitude by caring for one another and protecting the natural wonders that make Knysna unique.
Emphasis was placed on reaching out to those in need, extending kindness and embracing the values of unity and compassion that define the community.
The mayor wished peace, warmth and renewed hope to all households.
"My wife, Phawulomzi, our children, Mihlali and Alumiyo, and I wish our Christian community a very happy and blessed Christmas, and to all residents and visitors, a joyous and prosperous New Year."
