KNYSNA NEWS - Five Knysna schools, Chris Nissen Primary, Fraaisig Primary, Knysna Primary, Concordia High and Percy Mdala High came together in partnership with Knysna Church to celebrate Heritage Day with a music concert.
The concert opened with a welcome from Dr Sue Rendall, one of the event’s organisers, and was followed by a performance of The Click Song by a mass choir of 150 young singers, aged 11 to 18.
It was the first time these voices had sung together and the performance set the tone for an unforgettable evening.
Each choir then took to the stage separately to give a 10-minute repertoire of traditional African and Afrikaans songs. In the middle of the evening the audience had the opportunity to sing Amazing Grace and a three-part version of Shosholoza, without the choirs.
The evening continued with performances by the two high school choirs, and came to a rousing close as all choirs and the audience joined in a passionate and energetic performance of the national anthem.
While attendance was free, donations were collected and proceeds were shared equally among the five school choirs.
The organisers expressed their gratitude to all the sponsors who made the night possible.
