KNYSNA NEWS - Ten students from Carmen’s School of Dance recently participated in the annual Port Elizabeth Dance Festival, where they competed in a variety of solo and ensemble items.
This year’s adjudicator was the renowned dance and TV personality Delia Sainsbury, founder and director of The Waterfront Theatre School.
Ms Sainsbury’s elevated and exacting standards set the bar high for all who entered, to achieve top marks for their endeavours.
It is therefore a great accomplishment that, of the 27 items entered, gold and high gold were awarded to 26 of the items, with only 1 silver.
Added to these accomplishments, the following students received additional awards, trophies and section wins:
- Overall age category (7 & 8) winner: Celyn Godfrey
- National (7 & 8) category winner: Madison Starkey
- Overall age category (9 & 10) winner: Alison Kolbe
- Overall age category (13 & 14) winner: Nadine du Plessis
Nadine also received the Merrill Lane Platter for most promising junior ballet dancer – for the fourth time. She also successfully defended her title as junior ballet champion.
For this number of students from Carmen's School of Dance to receive such remarkable marks and awards (at a prestigious event), it is evident that the students and teacher have incredible commitment, discipline and love for dance. Also, the support from their families in helping them achieve these results made everyone's journey worth all the time and effort.
These young dancers have done a small town very proud!
