KNYSNA NEWS - In the latest protest action on the notorious Nekkies stretch of the N2, two vehicles were damaged after stones were thrown at passing traffic, according to reports.
This section of the N2, near Nekkies and the Uniondale turn-off, has a history of of residents resorting to burning tyres and throwing stones as a way of highlighting issues they may have with the powers that be.
Knysna police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said that a public policing unit was deployed to the area at about 20:00 on Thursday, August 17, and remained there till about 21:00.
He said the same unit was also sent there the previous night, at about 19:00 when, despite heavy rain at the time, stones were thrown and tyres burnt. Read more about this incident here.
These incidents resulted in two cases of public violence and four cases of malicious damage to property being opened, Spies said.
“It is still uncertain as to why the protest action took place, but the investigation continues. No arrests have been made at this stage,” he said.
