KNYSNA NEWS - In last week's edition of Knysna-Plett Herald it was reported that an explosive report, compiled by independent law firm De Swardt Vogel Myambo Attorneys, involving damaging allegations against former municipal manager Kam Chetty and recommendations that former mayor Eleanor Bouw-Spies be criminally charged, was done so on instruction of Councillor Ricky van Aswegen.
Van Aswegen said this week that this was not the case. He added that he had no power to instruct any law firm to investigate the activities of any councillor.
"The correct protocol, as I did follow, would be for any councillor who has any concerns of any activities of other councillors, to take these concerns to the mayor and the mayor will decide if this matter has credit to go before council for further instruction," Van Aswegen said.
It was later reported that the findings be sent directly to the office of Western Cape MEC for local government Anton Bredell to be dealt with. Knysna-Plett Herald approached the department about progress of the case, but this was not forthcoming before going to print.
Knysna-Plett Herald apologises for any misunderstanding.
