PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies has indicated that a case of reckless and negligent driving after yesterday's three-vehicle crash on the N2 outside Plett that involved a police vehicle.
"Plettenberg Bay police opened a reckless and negligent driving case following an accident involving three vehicles on the N2 highway near Keurbooms at about 10:30 on Thursday 5 January," said Spies.
Initial reports indicated that the SAPS bakkie collided with a stationary vehicle, however Spies' statement says both were travelling towards the Eastern Cape.
"Information available indicates a Ford Ranger (SAPS vehicle) and a Mitsubishi SUV were travelling in the direction of the tollgate when the vehicles collided with one hitting a Renault Koleos which was enroute to George," he said.
There was also a woman who sustained serious injuries during the accident and she was taken to hospital by ambulance. "The five others also sustained injuries and were taken to hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this stage," he said. "The cause of the accident is yet to be established. It forms part of the ongoing investigation."
