KNYSNA NEWS - South African National Parks (SANParks) announced the tragic death of Sandra Davidson, wife of current employee Hendrik Davidson, last week.
Her body was badly burnt during a fire which gutted three of the thirteen houses in the Beervlei SANParks staff village during the Karatara fires on 29 October.
According to SANParks spokesperson Nandi Mgwadlamba, Davidson was transferred from the George Hospital to Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town to receive further emergency care shortly after she was burned. Unfortunately Davidson passed away on 3 December, succumbing to her injuries, Mgwadlamba said.
“We are saddened at losing Sandra, our thoughts and prayers are with the Davidson family during this trying time. Our team will continue to provide the necessary support to the family and all affected people,” Garden Route National Park Manager Paddy Gordon said.
Davidson’s death brings the number of people who have died as a result of the fires in Farleigh and Beervlei to ten. Nine lives were lost on the day of the fires, including the pregnant woman's unborn baby.
