PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - After a protest earlier this morning in which angry residents marched to the Bitou Municipality buildings in Sewell Street, protesters have dispersed.
According to a municipal statement, a planned protest march regarding service delivery was expected at 10:00 at the main municipal building in Sewell Street in Plettenberg Bay, from the Qolweni community (ward 3, Bitou Municipality).
Some of the issues raised by the organisers of the march include:
1. Slow pace of housing project;
2. People who have houses renting them out and staying in shacks;
3. People who stay in houses and renting out shacks;
4. High unemployment rate;
5. Tenders awarded to same SMME's, and
6. Lack of sport development.
During the march this morning, there were reports of stone-throwing. This led to the diversion of traffic from the N2 to Robberg and Airport roads.
