KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna is edging closer to a total of 150 Covid-19 cases, with the tally currently standing at 142.

The total for Bitou now stands at 55.

Both the Knysna and Bitou subdistricts experienced an extended period of time during lockdown where neither of the two municipal areas notched up any new positive Covid-19 cases. However, as the economy began opening up again and foot traffic increased, the numbers have begun to rise once again. 

This has been a trend throughout the Garden Route, and the region is now a Covid-19 hotspot with a total of 44 patients admitted in public and private hospitals, with five in ICU.

Knysna has recorded four Covid-19 related deaths and has seen 89 recoveries, leaving 49 active cases in the area.

Meanwhille, in Bitou there has been one Covid-19 related death and there have been 18 recoveries, leaving 36 active Covid-19 cases in the subdistrict.
