KNYSNA | PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Knysna has recorded its 50th Covid-19 death after the number of deaths remained unchanged at 49 for four weeks, while Bitou is still standing at 24 deaths.
The last recorded death in Knysna happened between 4 and 14 September, when the number jumped from 46 to 49, but it remained stagnant for the four weeks that followed. Bitou last week recorded its first death in three weeks when it went up from 23 to 24.
Active cases in Knysna have dropped, but Bitou has recorded a rise. As of the morning of 21 October, Knysna has recorded a total of 1 595 Covid-19 cases, with 1 534 recoveries and 50 deaths, while 11 were active.
These numbers indicate that 20 new cases were recorded in Knysna between 14 and 21 October, dropping from 26 the previous week. The number of active cases (11), has also dropped, having stood at 21 last week.
Bitou has recorded a total of 657 cases, with 618 recoveries and 24 deaths, while 15 were active. This shows that Bitou recorded 11 new cases this week, having dropped from 19 new cases the previous week.
Despite the drop in new cases, the number of active cases has risen for the second week in a row.
On 7 September Bitou had only five active cases of Covid-19, and on 14 September stood on 11, but the subdistrict now has 15 active cases.
