KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Municipality Ward 8 Councillor Thando Matika has launched a back-to-school campaign and is extending an invitation to all Knysna locals to help him put a smile on the faces of the needy.
This year, back-to-school is a lot different from previous year, with so many challenges stacked against most learners and a growing need of supplies amid a pandemic.
“There is no denying that children can be mean, whether it’s through insults, exclusion, or gossip," Matika said. “Sadly, some of them suffer from this because their school shoes are broken or they go to school barefoot and some even drop out.”
Marilyn Monroe said, “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world”.
“This is not only applicable to girls. With the right pair of shoes children can step out into the world with confidence and less stress, allowing them to concentrate on things that allow them to thrive in this world,” Matika said.
First to donate was Waste Management manager Randall Bower, who challenged all other managers to join the cause.
Those who are in a position to donate may drop off stationery, school uniform clothing and sanitation towels at the following drop-off points:
- Councillor’s office in Ward 8 (next to Thembelitsha Primary School)
- Knysna Municipality main building (Clyde Street)
- Masifunde Library
