KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - Continuing the trend from the previous week, the Covid-19 figures for the week 9 to 16 November remained very low for both Knysna and Bitou with the former reaching single-figure statistics in active cases.
While the number of Covid-19 cases continued to dwindle, the number of people registered to receive a vaccine increased.
As at Tuesday 16 November, the Western Cape had a total of 2 548 500 registrations to get the Covid-19 vaccine (45,41% of the eligible population). In the Garden Route there was a total of 228 076 of Covid-19 vaccination registrations (46,07% of the eligible population).
In Knysna there were 32 563 vaccine registrations, representing 56,72% of the eligible population, while Bitou had 19 445 registrations as at Monday 15 November (45,76% of the eligible population).
As at Tuesday 16 November, Knysna had recorded a total of 8 083 cases of Covid-19, of which 7 818 had recovered, 257 had died, and eight were active cases. The five new cases recorded during the week were the fewest in Knysna since 4 May.
The active cases however dropped by 33,33% (-4), the first time Knysna has had single-digit active cases since 5 June 2020.
The recovery rate had increased slightly to 96,72% (96,68% the preceding week), the highest percentage since the sub-district was on 100% recovery rate on 24 April 2020. The mortality rate remained on 3,2%.

In Bitou as at Tuesday 16 November, 4 353 Covid-19 cases had been recorded, with 4 212 having recovered, 137 having died, and four were active cases. This meant one new case was recorded between 9 and 16 November, only one more than the previous week (zero).
The active cases rose by one, and was the second-lowest number (after the preceding week) since 17 March, when there were no active cases. Bitou's recovery rate was 96,76% (96,78% the preceding week), only dropping due to the lack of recoveries from 9 to 16 November, and the mortality rate remained on 3,1%.
