KNYSNA NEWS - One of the highlights of 2022 for Life Knysna Private Hospital and its stakeholders was the celebration of 25 years of providing quality, patient-centred care to the community of Knysna and its surrounds.
The hospital was established by Port Elizabeth Healthcare, a doctor's consortium, and admitted its first patient in October 1997.
At the time, the hospital operated with 27 beds and two theatres. Afrox Healthcare (now Life Healthcare) acquired the hospital in 2005. Continued investment has seen the development and expansion of the hospital to its current 66-bed modern facility, which offers medical care in various disciplines and a 24-hour emergency unit.
"Life Knysna Private Hospital is honoured to acknowledge, thank and celebrate the pioneering doctors and staff who relentlessly worked and supported the Knysna community through the hospital over the past 25 years," said Sifiso Mdluli, hospital manager, speaking on the milestone.
"In particular, we acknowledge the pioneering clinicians, Dr Douglas Seaton, gynaecologist and obstetrician; Dr Matthew Brouckaert, plastic and reconstructive surgeon; Dr Waldo Scribante, radiologist; and general practitioners Drs Berend Maarsingh, James Norval and Deidre Richman, who remain valued referring and admitting doctors. In addition, we are grateful to retired general practitioners Drs Neels Joubert, Peter Ettlin and Tovva Barker for their valued contribution to the growth of the hospital," he added.
At a recent long-service awards ceremony, five employees who have worked at the hospital for 25 years were presented with milestone awards. They are Welcome Magwa, theatre stock controller: 30 years within Life Healthcare and 25 years in Knysna; Erika Share, case manager; Monica Lamini, enrolled nursing assistant; Lizzie Smith, registered nurse and Magdaleni Lamini, admissions clerk.
"We are grateful to all patients, doctors and employees who have been part of our 25-year journey and for trusting us with the healthcare needs of the communities of Knysna, and surrounding areas," concluded Sifiso.
