KNYSNA NEWS - On July 7 and 8, Operatunity is hosting its first annual Charity Opera Gala event in the Knysna area.
The 2016 Charity Opera Gala showcases the best-loved arias, duets and ensemble show stoppers sung by outstanding young performing artists from different parts of South Africa. The gala will become an annual event to be enjoyed by locals and tourists alike.
Audiences can expect songs, arias and ensembles from the most recognised lyric works such as Lakme, La Traviata, Carmen, Romeo et Juliet, L’Elisir D’Amore, Cosi fan tutte and Il barbiere di Siviglia, together with some well-known opera tunes and classical songs. There promises to be something for every person’s taste.
Operatunity's mission is to create teaching and development opportunities to young and undiscovered classical talents in South Africa.
Operatunity creates and stage dynamic productions as an alternative to traditional opera performance, showing both its commitment to the holistic education of its students, artists as well as its dedication to drawing new audiences to opera as a whole.
The essential difference of this project from other music projects is an absolutely new format: it opens opportunities to young and potential musicians that would like to pursue music at tertiary level. The project also will be a gateway to enhance teaching skills of those at tertiary level, through community master classes, for choirs and schools.
This is a chance to give back to the community and give talented youth life-changing opportunities. Fundraiser events raise funds for our teens to participate in opera theatre workshops, music master classes, and other enrichment opportunities. Supporting these events helps Operatunity show kids another way of classical music and centre-stage life.
Over 200 people are expected to attend the event, and young and professional opera artists are running much of the programming. By supporting the Charity Opera Gala, donors' names will be included in all marketing materials, on the Operatunity website as well as recognising donors and their company at the event.
Though Operatunity have raised some of the funds for this event, they still need support to pay for the necessary artist accommodation, transportation and stipends. The amount donors give is completely up to them. Currently, they need to raise R15 000. The needed funds are to cover the following expenses:
• Transportation with local coach (return): R4 900
• Food stipends: R3 500
• Others (venue and program): R600
Operatunity does have annual sponsorship plans for this event to continue through the coming years in the Garden Route area. The following are some options to consider when considering this sponsorship request:
