The concert was held on Sunday, July 10.
One of the highlights of this year’s concert was the performance of the Waterkloof High School Band under the leadership of Danie Smith. The band is currently the South African Concert Band Champion (2004 -2010) and it was also crowned World Champion during 2006 American All Stars World Championships.
The band enthralled the crowd of music lovers with upbeat music. It consisted of 44 band members between the ages of 11 and 18 years.
The band was granted the opportunity to entertain the fully packed marquee of spectators for 15 minutes prior to the Navy Band’s annual performance.
The SA Navy Band made sure it left the crowd in awe, playing golden oldies as well as some of the latest hits, such as the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, sung by singer-songwriter Shakira featuring South African band Freshlyground.
It was evident that spectators enjoyed the performance. Some were deeply moved by the solo performances of two of the Navy Band’s members. A number of onlookers, including Knysna Executive Mayor Georlene Wolmarans, danced the famous diski dance along with the Navy Band.
"The South African Navy Band’s performance at our Waterfront on the final Sunday morning of the festival is one of the festival highlights.
This world-famous band has a huge following in Knysna, and they never fail to delight us with their exciting and diverse programme.
It is a joy to see our Rainbow Nation represented by happy, smiling faces with tapping feet from every community," said Georlene Wolmarans.
The Waterkloof High School Band entertained the crowd of Oyster Festival lovers with live upbeat music on Sunday, July 10 at the Knysna Waterfront.
