KNYSNA NEWS - Oriented Birds sealed a 3-2 win over Knysna side Voota FC over the weekend in a competitive District League clash at Safe Hub in Knysna, strengthening their promotion push in the Safa Eden Regional Men's League as they continue to chase leaders Moonlight FC from Dysselsdorp for a provincial league playoff spot.

Both teams started brightly, with Oriented Birds using the wings effectively, while Voota threatened through Anovuyo Baliso, whose long-range effort forced a save. Ashley Ganya also struck the crossbar from a set piece in an open first half.

The visitors took the lead through Thabiso Minana to go into halftime 1-0 up.

After the break, Awonke Sondaba doubled the advantage with a well-worked move down the left. However, Oriented Birds were reduced to 10 men when Minana received a red card for a dangerous challenge.

Voota responded quickly, with Sinovuyo Tanga pulling a goal back to make it 2-1. The visitors restored control when Bandile 'Barra' Ntukantu produced a moment of brilliance, scoring a powerful long-range strike to extend the lead to 3-1.

Despite late pressure, including a second goal from Luyanda Niyake to make it 3-2, Voota could not find an equaliser as Oriented Birds held firm.

The result moves Oriented Birds into second place on 57 points after 27 matches, trailing leaders Moonlight FC, while Voota remains fifth on 47 points.

Oriented Birds coach Lisakhanya Sphungu said the team remains focused on the title race, stressing consistency and discipline in the intensifying final stretch of the season.
