KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna High School’s U18 indoor hockey team returned from Oudtshoorn with a bronze medal after an exciting weekend at the Indoor Bash Hockey Tournament, held at the De Jagers Indoor Facility from 28 to 30 August.
Organised by the Oudtshoorn Elephants and sponsored by Princess Hockey and Brabo Hockey, the tournament saw the young Knysna side take on some strong opposition.
The bronze medal match went down to the wire as the teams levelled at 3-3 at the end of regulation time before a penalty shoot-out and sudden death finish decided the result.
The Knysna players also received some individual accolades. Jaden Booysen was named the tournament’s most improved indoor player, while Alessandro Medeira was named the man of the match. Goalkeeper Bunono Nosilela also delivered an outstanding performance, while Edrich Botha scored the winning goal in the bronze medal match.
The team is coached by Basil Medeira and managed by Igno Botha.
The bronze medal finish is a notable achievement for the Knysna players, who do not have access to a dedicated indoor hockey facility in town and rely on facilities elsewhere for competitive indoor hockey experience.
