KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna's dancing talent was on full display in Gqeberha last weekend as the Sidwell Roman School of Ballet celebrated an impressive string of sectional and championship victories.
Under the guidance of teachers Sidwell Roman and Courtney-Drew Meyer, the studio returned home with an impressive 22 double gold, 38 gold, 16 silver and three bronze awards.
The dancers also claimed four ballet sectional titles. Talia Dwyer (7-8 years), Gabriella Jonsson (9-10 years), Christina Jonsson (11-12 years) and Jaden Morton (13-14 years Boys) all emerged as sectional winners.
Further success came in the national/character sectionals, in which Gabriella, Christina, Jana Olivier (13-14 years) and Jaden each secured sectional titles. The championship results were equally impressive. Christina was crowned the pre-junior ballet champion, while Jaden won the junior ballet championship for boys.
Zélie de Villiers was runner-up in both the junior ballet championship and junior modern championship.
Special recognition went to Gabriella, who received the prestigious Dawn de Wit Trophy for Most Promising Ballet Dancer, while Christina received the Little Cherub Voucher for Most Promising Junior in Any Dance Genre.
Adding to the celebrations, Entr'act, choreographed by Roman, was awarded the best ballet ensemble. "We are so proud of every single one of our dancers. Their dedication, hard work and love of dance continue to inspire us every day," said Roman.
