KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Shotokan Karate Club brought home five medals last week after four of its karatekas competed against tough Garden Route opposition at a karate club competition in Mossel Bay.
With the school holidays affecting participation, the club could send only four students to the competition. They did the club proud, returning with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Noah Stuurman, competing in the boys' nine-year-old yellow belt division, won gold in kumite. Autumn Ruiters earned two medals in the girls' 10-year-old orange belt division, taking gold in kumite and bronze in kata.
Hope Kamfer also secured two medals in the girls' 17-year-old yellow belt division, winning silver in kata and bronze in kumite.
Tyler Petersen also represented the club, facing a challenging competition and fighting with determination. Although he did not win a medal, his performance was still noteworthy.
The club praised the karatekas for their efforts against strong competition from across the Garden Route. The team will now prepare for its final competition of the year, scheduled for the Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre on 31 October, when the club will conclude its activities for the year.
