Police spokesperson Lieutenant Marlene Pieterse said members of the flying squad confiscated Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R15 000 during a routine operation on Sunday, January 25.
“Members stopped a Ford Figo on the N2 highway near the tollgate and searched the vehicle. They found more than 23kg of Mandrax tablets inside a box in the boot of the vehicle,” Pieterse said.
The driver and the passenger, 34 and 45 years old, were arrested on the spot and appeared in the local magistrate’s court on drug possession charges. The case was postponed to Tuesday, January 27 for a bail application.
