KNYSNA NEWS - Following the declaration of a local state of emergency, the joint operations centre has outlined the routes taken by tankers to deliver water to residents, places where they stop, and explained how the tankers are operating in terms of the updated delivery procedure.
The centre says in statements issued jointly with the Knysna Municipality, Garden Route District Municipality, and the Western Cape Government that a water tanker will follow the route below in zones 2 and 3/ward 9:
- The assigned tanker will start in Marlin Road and proceed through Fisher Haven, then continue through Hunters Home and Rexford, stopping briefly at designated areas along the way to allow residents to collect water
- Lower Old Place currently has access to municipal water. A brief stop may be made at the usual drop-off point if required. The ward councillor will provide guidance based on current needs
- In Upper Old Place, the truck will roam through the neighbourhood, with short stops at both the previous drop-off point and at “the parkie” to accommodate residents in need
Residents in all areas are urged to respond promptly when they hear the tanker approaching, and to ensure containers are clearly visible to assist delivery crews.

- Leisure Island: At present, the area has access to water. Further deliveries will be guided by feedback from the ward councillor
- The Heads: The designated drop-off point will be serviced periodically, and residents are advised to remain alert to the sound of the tanker hooting in their vicinity.
As with other areas, the truck will follow the updated delivery procedure, driving slowly, hooting, and stopping frequently to ensure fair and efficient access to water.
