KNYSNA NEWS - Areas that receive their electricity supply from the Eastford substation will be without electricity for 12 hours today, 11 January, until 20:30, due to substation repairs and load shedding.
The outage is affecting a large portion of the town, with areas such as Brocaar, Bremmer, Hinde, Hagadashi, Brenton-On-Sea, Gouna, Heuwelkruin, Paradise and more without electricity.
The repairs are being conducted between 08:00 and 16:00 after the main breaker exploded on Monday 9 January. Thereafter load shedding will be implemented between 16:00 and 20:30 for the whole of Knysna, meaning those affected by the Eastford outage will be without power for 12 hours today.
Ward 10 Councillor Peter Bester explained that they had tried to obtain emergency load shedding exemption from Eskom for Knysna. "[It] could not be granted due to the fact that it is now Stage 6 load shedding and because it was a municipal infrastructure failure, rather than an Eskom infrastructure failure," he said.
